We had 123 people in attendance at the October meeting. We had the following three main speakers:
Dr. Mark W. Murphy (DOW R&D Director
for DOW Automotive's Plastics and Fluids). Presented information on new developments
in automotive plastics in addition to information on where DOW is headed
in plastics development for automotive interiors.
David P. Mattis (Director, Materials and Corrosion Engineering, General Motors).
Presented information on current interior trends and the impact of materials.
Richard Schaum (2007 President SAE International and former DaimlerChrysler
Executive Vice President, Product Development and Quality). Presented information
on the benefits of SAE membership to individuals, companies, industry, and
our communities. He also presented some of his observations from being the
current President of SAE International and his global travels.
There was an excellent and very extensive display of automotive plastics applications in the Valley Plaza Resort Great Hall during a reception before dinner. DOW subject matter experts were on hand to answer any questions that the attendees had concerning their products. A very large GM Plastics applications display was also present. Dave Mattis said that Bob Lutz had a hand in putting it together for another GM event. Formula SAE and Baja vehicles were on display from CMU and SVSU students. A bus tour of the DOW Plastics Laboratories was also conducted before the reception and dinner meeting took place. The CMU and SVSU students expressed great interest in the event. DOW Chemical provided free meals to the students who were in attendance.
